The year 2020 was marked by the global health crisis related to covid-19. The obverse of the coin represents the figuration of the human in union, represented by a face inscribed in a sphere. It faces the infinitely small, represented by fragments of DNA inscribed in a circle. By its oblique axis, this allegory represents the research and its intelligence dominating the infinitely small; studying it and triumphing over the diseases. Monnaie de Paris has developed 3 blister packs that bring out the main feelings that emerge from this crisis, the blisters “UNION”, “HEROS” and MERCI.

France 10 euro silver ancient Olympia 2020
ANCIENT OLYMPIA 10 EURO SILVER COIN.
The obverse represents the archaeological site of Olympia with its columns made from the remains of ancient monuments. The birthplace of the Olympic Games is translated by the flame that gushes out of the basin. An Olympian goddess tries to light her torch with this Olympic flame. The geometric shapes at the back of the coin evoke the famous Greek amphitheatres and therefore the first Olympic stadiums that hosted the Games in antiquity.

The obverse of the coin shows the painting Guernica where it has been painted: Picasso’s workshop located on 7, GrandsAugustins street in Paris, close to Monnaie de Paris. The painting is fully visible. The title of the art work and the name of the painter are visible on the wood beam which supports the roof of the workshop. The stamp « Chefs d’oeuvre des musees » has been added on the top left. The reverse is common to the series, it shows a mix of some French museums views.

Paris city of lights. Tribute to the most beautiful buildings of the capital. In 2019, the Paris’ Treasures series highlights Paris, the City of lights, with the light beam of the Eiffel Tower. The obverse shows an aerial view by night of the Eiffel Tower. This plunging view alllows the light beam to spread out on Paris and keep an eye on its inhabitants. In 2019, it is the 130th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower. This date and the « RF » mention are highlighted in the Seine River.
