France – 2 Euro, Pierre de Coubertin, 2013

The French 2 Euro commemorative coin 2013 to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937). Pierre de Coubertin is mainly famous for founding the modern Olympic Games. These worldwide sporting events are the occasion for athletes of participating countries to compete in a spirit of peace and for the honour of sport. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of a young Pierre de Coubertin. In the background, stylised Olympic rings frame silhouettes that symbolise some Olympic sport.
